    This is a part-time 32 hours per week opportunity with many benefits! As a Missoula County employee, you will be part of a team that is committed to positively impacting the community. The rate of pay for this position is $25.65 per hour.

    The Community Justice Department is seeking a JUSTICE INITIATIVES COORDINATOR I*** to join their team. This position works on behalf of local governments to coordinate programs and in assigned areas such as criminal justice, community-based services, and human services, housing. Works to improve the criminal legal system through stakeholder engagement, research, program development, implementation, and evaluation for the Community Justice Department (CJD). ***Employee will need to travel to (or live in) Mineral County/Seeley Lake. ***

    Representative Examples of Work

    Coordinates the development, planning, implementation, and evaluation of criminal justice system initiatives, activities, and programs based on criminal justice best practices and through engagement with city, county, state, and federal partners, as well as consultants, contractors, community organizations, local stakeholders, and criminal justice professionals. Evaluates the effectiveness of program services and delivery. Assists with the preparation of division and program budgets. Prepares reports and budget estimates, monitors and approves expenditures, and oversees grants administration. Assists in researching and applying for grant opportunities to support the mission of the department. Stays informed of program development initiatives, state, and federal funding opportunities. Evaluates key performance indicators for achieving program goals, and tracks and reports outcomes. Obtains and analyzes data to develop data modeling and inform alternatives to incarceration and improve justice system outcomes for victims of crime. Adheres to program parameters and performance standards. Ensures programs align with CJD mission and strategy. Provides guidance and expertise in criminal justice best practices. Develops and coordinates programs, policies and procedures, evaluates effectiveness, enhances coordination of existing assets and services; develops methods to fill gaps in resources, facilities and services; recommends changes. Provides training, workshops, conferences, and technical support.
    Participates in team building and problem solving and facilitates cooperative team efforts among program partners/implementation teams. Organizes, sets agendas, and participates in program team meetings. Serves as the local government liaison to partners, subgrantees and contract holders. Identifies and resolves partner agency needs. Provides community outreach and education. Conducts community needs assessments. Incorporates evidence-based best practices, and data-driven information into recommendations, seeks opportunities to propose legislative changes, monitors new legislation, and forecasts the potential impact on the local justice system. Collects, analyzes, synthesizes, and reports program data.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Requires a bachelor’s degree. Degrees best suited to this position are criminal justice, criminology, public administration, communications, human services, social work, or related fields of study. Master’s degree desired.
    • Requireone year of experience a criminal justice setting, organizing community programs, or working with community-based organizations. Experience in one or more of the following areas is desired: work in the criminal justice system;?policy or program development and implementation; policy or program evaluation; project management; and social-science research. Experience working with culturally diverse populations is desired.
    • SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS : Must be able to pass a criminal background check conducted by the Missoula County Sheriff’s Department.


    Physical/Environmental Demands

    Employee will need to travel to (or live in) Mineral County/Seeley Lake. Work is primarily performed in an office or meeting room setting. Requires attendance at off-site meetings. May require attendance at night or weekend meetings; requires occasional out-of-town travel to attend meetings, conferences, and workshops. Schedule may require attending meetings or working outside of normal business hours to meet deadlines.

    Missoula County will reward your contributions to our community with competitive compensation and generous benefits, including but not limited to:

    Excellent Medical Health Benefits– Group health benefits, including dental and vision coverage, are available to eligible County employees. The medical health benefits premium is covered for full-time employees. The County contribution is pro-rated on hours paid for part-time employees. The employee pays the premium portion for dependent coverage. Family health benefits coverage is $258.00 per pay period.

    Medical deductible is $500 for an individual and $1,000 for a family.

    Flexible Benefits Plan– Pre-tax out-of-pocket medical expenses and day care expenses.

    Voluntary Life Insurance Coverage, Long and Short-Term Disability, Critical and Accident Insuranceare offered through Mutual ofOmaha.

    Public Employees Retirement System– Montana public employees of the state, university system, local governments and certain employees of school districts are covered by the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS). New members to the PERS have an opportunity to choose between two retirement plan options: the Defined Benefit Plan or the Defined Contribution Plan.

    Sheriffs' Retirement System (SRS)– A public pension plan for all Montana Sheriffs hired after July 1, 1974 and Detention Officers hired after July 1, 2005.

    Supplemental Retirement Benefitsare offered through Valic or Nationwide.

    Sick Leave– Full-time employees accrue 7.38hours per month and are eligible to use sick leave once you have been an employee for 90 days.The accrual is pro-rated for part-time employees.

    Vacation Leave– Full-time employees accrue 9.24 hours per month and are eligible to use leave after continuous employment for a period of 6 full months. The accrual is pro-rated for part-time employees.

    Holidays– The County observes eleven legal holidays in even numbered years and ten legal holidays in odd numbered years.

    Paid Parental Leave (PPL)-In recognition of the importance of bonding and care of a newborn child or a child placed for adoption, Missoula County 6 continuous weeks of PPL to eligible full-time employees that have been with the county for 180 days. The hours are pro-rated for part-time employees.
