    Job Description

    Working Title: Athletic Equipment Assistant

    Classification Title: Athletic Equipment Attendant I

    Position Details

    Emergency Hire - Temporary position lasting at most 90 days with an option of being extended to 180 days.

    Position Summary

    Under the general direction of the Equipment Specialist, the incumbent is responsible for the day-to-day operations of an equipment room for athletic teams. The position provides support for coaches and student athletes, as well as administrative staff. Duties within the equipment room include, but not limited to equipment maintenance, repair, and inventory. Proper fitting of apparel and safety equipment for student-athletes per AEMA guidelines is also required.

    FLSA: Non-Exempt

    CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,680 - $5,109 per month

    Hiring Range/Rate: $21.23 per hour - $25.38 per hour

    Salary Grade/Range: 1

    Time Base: Hourly-Intermittent

    Work Hours: Hours will vary based on operational needs; ability to work evenings and weekends required.

    Department Information

    The program of Intercollegiate Athletics is organized and conducted as an integral part of the total educational program of the University. Academic excellence and athletic accomplishments go hand in hand at Sacramento State. There are three separate and
    unique missions in this program: to contribute to the educational objectives of the University; to provide a healthy, competitive athletic experience to individual student-athletes; to serve as a public relations vehicle within the community.

    The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics offers both academic courses and an intercollegiate athletics program. Academic courses offer the opportunity for individuals to gain knowledge and understanding in a particular area of expertise related to intercollegiate athletics.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Knowledge and Abilities:

    Working knowledge of or ability to learn quickly the name and type of athletic equipment and clothes used in physical education classes; ability to compare names and numbers rapidly and accurately; ability to post and keep simple records; ability to sort, maintain and inventory supplies; ability to mend and do simple sewing by hand and machine; ability to work well with others; ability to read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position.

    AND

    Special Qualifications:

    Possession of or ability to obtain an American Red Cross First Aid Certificate.

    Experience :
    • Experience laundering and maintaining athletic equipment. Proper fitting of protective equipment for athletes.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
    • Experience documenting and maintaining records pertaining to athletes, maintenance, ordering/inventorying, as well as safety protocols.
    • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships and provide excellent customer service to a variety of customers.
    • Working knowledge of the procedures and protocols regarding equipment management in regards to athlete safety/protection.
    • Ability to compare names, numbers, and records associated with that individual athlete and keep accurate records of the equipment checked out to each individual.
    • Ability to keep simple records, sort, maintain, and inventory supplies.
    • Ability to mend apparel and do simple sewing by hand or machine.
    • Ability to provide lead work direction to student assistants in the absence of Equipment Specialist.

    Work Schedule:
    • Ability to work flexible hours to meet operational needs including holidays, weekends and evenings.
    • Ability to travel to away competitions, as needed.

    Certifications :
    • Certified through the Athletics Equipment Manager Association (AEMA) or certifiable within 1 year of hiring.

    Conditions of Employment
    • Ability to successfully pass a background check.


    Preferred Qualifications
    • One (1) year working within the collegiate athletics setting working with multiple teams.


    Required Licenses/Certifications

    • Possession of or ability to obtain an American Red Cross First Aid Certificate.
    • Certified through the Athletics Equipment Manager Association (AEMA) or certifiable within 1 year of hiring.
