    The City of Newport Beach is located in the coastal center of Orange County, with Los Angeles County to the north and San Diego County to the south. It has an estimated permanent population of 86,738 but during the summer months, the population grows to more than 100,000 with 20,000 to 100,000 tourists daily. Newport Beach is known for its fine residential areas, modern shopping facilities, strong business community and quality school system. It surrounds Newport Bay where approximately 4,300 boats of all types are docked within the 21-square-mile harbor area. The bay area and the City’s eight miles of ocean beach offer outstanding fishing, swimming, surfing, and aquatic sports activities. The City of Newport Beach was incorporated September 1, 1906 and the current City Charter was adopted in 1954. The City operates under a Council-Manager form of government. Its seven City Council Members are elected by district, but are voted on by the population as a whole. They serve four-year terms. The Council consists of the Mayor and six other members and is responsible for policy-making, passing local ordinances, adopting the budget, appointing committees and hiring the City Manager, City Attorney, and City Clerk. The City Manager is responsible for carrying out the policies and ordinances of the City Council, for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the City, and for appointing heads of departments.

    The City of Newport Beach is seeking a Library Page to join the Library Services Department . Currently, there is one part-time vacancy at the Central Library. The eligibility list created from this recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur in the Central Library, Balboa, Corona del Mar, and Mariners branches.

    Selection Components
      Application Evaluation: Applications will be accepted until Wednesday, Oc tober 22 , 202 5 at 5:00 p.m. or 150 applications - whichever occurs first . Please apply immediately as this recruitment may close at any time.
      Online Exam: Q ualified applicants will be invited to take an online exam t entatively scheduled for the week of October 27, 2025 .
      Virtual Interview: Top scoring candidates will be invited to a virtual interview tentatively scheduled for the week of November 6, 2025 . Passing applicants will be placed on an eligibility list that may be used to fill future vacancies.

    Career Path:

    This is the entry-level position in the Library series. The career path for this position includes: Library Clerk I, Library Clerk II, and Senior Library Clerk.

    Schedule:
    This position works a flexible schedule of up to 19 hours per week including days, nights and weekends based on the needs of the Library.

    Experience & Education and License/Certificate

    A combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

    Experience: No experience is required, but previous clerical experience preferred.

    Education: Equivalent to completion of the tenth grade.

    License/Certificate : Due to the performance of some field duties which require the operation of a personal or City vehicle, a valid and appropriate California driver's license and an acceptable driving record may be required.

    Disaster Service Worker: In accordance with Government Code Section 3100, City of Newport Beach Employees, in the event of a disaster, are considered disaster service workers and may be asked to respond accordingly.

    Benefits

    This position is Part-time/Seasonal and is provided the following minimum benefits:

    Part-time employees are enrolled in the Public Agency Retirement System (PARS) beginning on their first day of employment. The total defined contribution to the plan is 7.5% of your compensation of which the City pays 3.75%. The City does not participate in the federal Social Security program. Your benefits may be reduced if you work for an employer who does not withhold Social Security taxes from your salary.

    Medicare: Federal mandate requires all employees hired or rehired by any government agency on or after April 1, 1986 to participate in Medicare. The City matches the employee's Medicare contribution, which is 1.45% of salary. Enrollment and deduction amounts are subject to change based on negotiated terms and additional laws.
