    The presence of Nevada's earliest inhabitants, beginning about 12,400 years ago, is marked by many petroglyphs and archaeological sites. An Act of Congress created the Territory of Nevada on March 2, 1861. James W. Nye of New York was appointed Nevada's first Territorial Governor by President Abraham Lincoln later that year. On October 31, 1864, President Lincoln proclaimed Nevada's admission to the Union as the 36th state. The State's first elected Governor, Henry Blasdel, took office on December 5, 1864. Today, Nevada is the nation's seventh largest state in land area. Several hundred mountain ranges cross its landscape, many with elevations over 10,000 feet. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems. The Nevada Legislature has honored the State's natural resources and cultural heritage with a variety of State designations described below.

    The Position

    Laboratory Technicians perform standardized technical laboratory procedures requiring knowledge in the life and physical sciences.

    PER EXECUTIVE ORDER 2024-007, ALL MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS HAVE BEEN WAIVED FOR THIS POSITION UNTIL JUNE 30TH, 2025. Please refer to the link for more information: https://gov.nv.gov/Newsroom/ExecOrders/Executive-Orders/ Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.

    Candidate will be working under the DONS supervision performing routine laboratory tests as directed by professional staff; prepare a variety of standard culture media; stain and label specimens; Collect/draw blood and collect urine and or tissue samples. Should be able to maintain and store laboratory equipment supplies, and inventories; maintain patient records, proper specimen handling and safety. Able to adapt to change, work under pressure, team player. The Lab Technician position is located at Lovelock Correctional Center in Lovelock, NV. Candidates must be reliable, able to work according to their scope of practice, able to function under pressure, establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with supervisors, custody, medical staff, and patients. This position will have significant offender contact.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of laboratory experience performing various laboratory procedures; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Requirements A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items. Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. Pursuant to NRS 652.080, this position requires a State of Nevada Laboratory Assistant/Office Laboratory License issued by the Division of Public and Behavioral Health. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.
