    Job Description

    Job Summary

    The purpose of this position is to support the community’s animal-related needs through exceptional customer service, knowledge of pet resource providers, and progressive enforcement of state and local animal law. This is accomplished by responding to citizen calls relate to animal violations, conducting inspections of properties, issuing citations or violations, and completing administrative duties. This position requires adaptability and positive performance in stressful situations.

    Essential Job Functions

    • Conducts inspections by patrolling the City for animal violations; investigating neglect or other complaints; responding to citizen complaints; scheduling regular inspections; touring the building or property; noting violations of code; researching to locate owners, if necessary; notifying owners of results of inspections; and re-inspecting noncompliant locations.

    • Issues citations and violations by compiling inspection reports; preparing cases for the court; executing warrants; and ensuring follow-up to ensure animals are cared for.

    • Completes administrative duties by answering calls; providing information to the public and other departments as requested; compiling various reports; completing documents and forms; and maintaining records.

    • Provides customer service to the public both onsite, facilitating animal intake, and in the field, responding to calls. Supplements customer and animal care onsite to support shelter staff.

    • Supervises personnel by observing and monitoring work tasks; functioning as a lead worker; and providing guidance, instruction, and feedback.

    • Performs departmental specific functions by attending to the onsite pet population; regular handling of live and deceased animals; conducting euthanasia services; dispatching service calls; ensuring properties are cleaned up.

    • Performs intake assessments for all animals entering the facility and administers basic vaccinations, microchip implantation, blood testing, and de-worming protocol when applicable. Supplements medical staff care by monitoring animals for signs of contagious illness or trauma and administers daily medication and re-vaccination protocol when necessary.

    • The physical demands of this position are considered medium in nature. Typically, this means regularly lifting 20 - 50 lbs. occasionally, 10 - 25 lbs. frequently, or up to 10 lbs. constantly. This is a description of the way this job is currently performed; it does not address the potential for accommodation.

    • Regular and dependable attendance is required.


    Minimum Qualifications

    • Education: Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes. Level of knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency.
    • Experience: Over two years of animal care and handling.
    • Licenses: Valid Texas Class C Driver's License.
    • Certifications Required: Code Enforcement Officer License, Basic Animal Control Officer Certification, Certified Euthanasia Technician, Lead Visual Assessment Certification, Housing Quality Standards Certification
