    Job Description

    Requirements

    MOS: 0904 (Navy), 46F1 (Air Force), 66E (Army)

    Education and Experience : Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) and three (3) years of experience as a licensed vocational nurse including two (2) years in a lead or supervisory capacity.

    Licenses and Certificates : Valid Texas Class “C” Driver’s License or equivalent from another state by date of appointment. Licensed as a Vocational Nurse in the State of Texas by the State Board of Nurse Examiners or equivalent from a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state. Must have a current CPR certification.

    General Purpose

    Under direction, provide nursing support to clinic staff and provide health services for public health programs.

    Typical Duties

    Assist and oversee clinic operations. Involves: Oversee and supervise LVNs and other assigned clinic personnel. Interview patients or relatives and obtain information, medical history, immunization status, diet recall, height, weight, and samples for laboratory testing to determine eligibility for program services and to provide support to the health program in delivering patient care. Obtain and record vital signs and measurements to supplement medical history. Draw blood through a finger-prick, from a vein or infant’s heel and prepare for laboratory screenings. Conduct glucose testing and hematocrit tests. Dispense prescription and non-prescription drugs as directed. Administer vaccinations to immunize patients. Sterilize equipment and assemble equipment used by clinicians in patient examinations. Implement patient teaching in cooperation with the registered nurse or nutritionist. Participate and oversee mass vaccination clinics and/or screening clinics. Assist in coordinating clinic outreach programs. Participate in developing and implementing strategies and tools that support setting up and running clinics. Identify opportunities to improve standards or guidelines of patient care in a clinical setting. Maintain records and prepares oral and written reports, utilizing computer for data entry. Schedule patient appointments and patient’s home visits to obtain information, follow up care, and increase quality of service.

    Supervise assigned staff. Involves: scheduling, assigning, instructing, guiding, and checking work. Appraise employee performance and review evaluations by subordinates. Provide employee training and development. Enforce personnel rules and regulations and work behavior standards firmly and impartially. Counsel, motivate, and maintain harmony. Interview applicants and recommend hiring, termination, transfers, discipline, or other employee status changes. Enforce safety rules and regulations.
